SC sends notice to Salman Khan regarding acquittal in hit-and-run case
SC was hearing a petition made by the Maharashtra government where it has challenged the verdict issued by the Bombay High Court in 2015.
SC has also issued a notice in response to a petition by the victim's family that they have not received any compensation, according to local reports.
On Sep 28, 2002, Salman Khan's Toyota Land Cruiser had crashed into men sleeping on the pavement in a Bandra neighbourhood.
In May 2015, a trial court had held Khan guilty of running over the man after a night out drinking.
In Dec 2015, the Bombay High Court had said that the prosecution had failed to prove "beyond reasonable doubt" that the actor was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident and was drunk, according to media reports.
Senior lawyer Kapil Sibbal, appearing for the actor on Friday, said there is not evidence that Khan was driving the car when the incident occurred.
SC has given the actor six weeks to respond to the notice.
