Rohith Vemula: JNU students on indefinite hunger strike

| | Jan 25, 2016, at 03:55 pm
New Delhi, Jan 25 (IBNS) Alleging foul-play and demanding action against Union ministers Smriti Irani, Bandaru Dattatreya and Hyderabad University VC Appa Rao Podile, for the death of Dalit student Rohith Vemula, three JNU students have gone on an indefinite hunger strike as a sign of protest, according to reports.

The three students identified as Lenin Kumar, Shushree and Shubhanshu began their strike on Saturday night at the University's administrative block with a demand that the central government must grant aid to Rohit's family.

One of them said that as Rohith's Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) was the only income for his family, financial assistance for his family members must be provided by the central government.
