Ram Nath Kovind is India's 14th President

New Delhi, Jul 20 (IBNS) : NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday became the 14th President of India beating his opponent Meira Kumar predictably, polling over 7 lakh votes.

Succeeding Pranab Mukherjee, Kovind became second Dalit President of India after KR Naryanan.

He won two thirds of the votes almost. His name was declared by the returning office.

Seventyone-year-old Ram Nath Kovind is a farmer’s son.  The former Bihar Governor has also served two terms as a member of the Rajya Sabha. He is also a trained lawyer who has appeared at the High Court and Supreme Court.
