New Delhi/IBNS: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday left for Russia where he will be attending the country's 75th Victory Day Parade in Moscow.

Rajnath in a tweet said, "Leaving for Moscow on a three day visit. The visit to Russia will give me an opportunity to hold talks on ways to further deepen the India-Russia defence and strategic partnership. I shall also be attending the 75th Victory Day Parade in Moscow."

His visit assumes significance as the Indian Air Force (IAF) has pushed a proposal to the government for acquiring 33 new fighter aircraft, including 21 MiG-29s and 12 Su-30MKIs from Russia.

Defence Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu has invited Rajnath to the Victory Parade, which was originally scheduled on May 9, 2020 but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
