Rajasthan assembly session to commence from Aug 14, Guv Kalraj Mishra orders

Jaipur/IBNS: The Rajasthan assembly session would commence from Aug 14, a notice from Governor Kalraj Mishra's office stated on Wednesday evening after days of turmoil over the issue.

The notice stated that the Governor has "approved the proposal to start the fifth session of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from August 14, sent by the Cabinet."

Mishra has turned down Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's third proposal this morning to commence the session from July 31.

The Governor said he saw no reason for an early assembly session without a 21-day notice during the coronavirus pandemic unless the government wanted to hold a floor test.

In that case, a short session with all the safety measures, including social distancing could be held, Mishra has said.

Ashok Gehlot's government in Rajasthan is facing a crisis following a rebellion by former deputy CM Sachin Pilot and his 18 loyalists.

Gehlot has been long demanding for the assembly session in his state and accordingly sent a total of three proposals to the governor so far.

The Rajasthan CM claims to have the support of the required number of MLAs to hold the assembly session in the desert state or to prove majority.
