PM Modi invokes Zanjeer songs to express friendship to Afghanistan

Kabul, Dec 25 (IBNS) Invoking the famour Zanjeer song "Yari hai imaan mera yaar meri zindagi," Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday sent a strong message of friendship, saying India will be with Afghanistan at every step of their journey to peace and prosperity.

While addressing Afghan  Parliament during his daylong visit, Modi said, "India is here to contribute not to compete, to lay the foundations of future, not light the flame of conflict, to rebuild lives, not to destroy a nation."

He said that there are multiple opportunities for the terror-hit Afghanistan and they should look in the direction of development. "Every youth in Afghanistan should see a future in which IT stands for information technology, not international terrorism. Terror and violence cannot be the instrument to shape Afghanistan’s future or dictate the choices Afghans make," he said.

He appealed to the other countries, saying  they should support Afghanistan in its fight against terrorism. "As Afghans take responsibility for their future, the world must stand with them in solidarity and support. Afghans are not only fighting for their future but are standing up for all of us and a safer world," he said.

Modi thanked the Afghans for their gesture to name a block after the former Indian PM. "This house brings together our two nations. Atal block unites us. We are deeply touched that you have chosen to name this building the Atal Block," he said.

Earlier in the day, the PM was given a Guard of Honour by Afghan defence forces at the Presidential Palace. He met Ghani to discuss a wide range of issues, including security and bilateral cooperation.
