Optimistic about India's first COVID-19 vaccine: Maharashtra Health Minister

Mumbai/UNI:  Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has said that Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Bharat Biotech International Ltd (BBIL) is working on the first Indian vaccine for the coronavirus disease and he is optimistic about the successful clinical trials of the vaccine.

Tope said on Friday night that spoke to ICMR director general Balram Bhargava about the vaccine.

According to the state health minister, clinical trials for the vaccine will be carried out at 13 to 14 important hospitals. These clinical trials are expected to take place by July 7.

'The aim is to complete the pre-clinical and clinical trials by August 15 and develop the first Indian-made vaccine,' Tope said.

"I am hopeful that if all these matters are completed in time, our country's first vaccine could be developed through the joint efforts of ICMR-BBIL," he added.
