Omar Abdullah accepts defeat

"I accept the defeat with meekness," Omar said in a press conference adding here at his residence Gupkar Srinagar.

After facing clean sweep in J&K, Omar said, "We fight completely on national issues while as PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) fight on local issues."

He said that he was not expecting such results. "I was not expecting one sided results."

"I congratulate PDP and BJP and hope that they represent wishes of people in the parliament," he said.

Omar stated that it was his defeat and now it depended on National Conference (NC) whether it would continue with him as the chief minister or not.

"It is my defeat as the Chief Minister, now it depends on the party whether it continues with me as the CM or not," Omar said, "adding "I have always been a loyal soldier of NC."

Omar said that the Lok Sabha elections and its outcome had many lessons for him. "There are important lessons to be learnt," Omar said.

Omar expressed his good wishes for Modi. "Modi has got absolute majority, good luck to him," Omar said.

However, Omar said that the results of the Lok Sabha elections are not an end of his party. "This is not the end of NC, we will come back."

Omar said, "I will sit with my cabinet colleagues who could not hold
their constituencies were we got beating."

After watching the early trends from different parts of the country, Omar Abdullah said on his twitter site: "I imagined a worst case scenario but early trends are worse than that. Let's hope this trend reverses as the count progresses."

He has been one of the most vocal UPA allies who has criticised BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi during his election campaign.
