Amritsar, Dec 31 (IBNS) Nine persons, including women and children, were killed and 15 injured when a mini-bus collided with a motorised cart near Jeevan Pandher village on the Amritsar-Mehta road on Wednesday evening, reports said.

Locally known as 'gharooka', motorised cart is a popular mode of transport in the Punjab rural areas.

The police said four persons died on the spot and five while being taken to hospital. The injured have been admitted to different hospitals.

Eyewitness said the bus hit the ‘gharooka’ from the rear and dragged it several metres away.

Led by relatives of the victims, a furious mob gathered at the accident site and torched the bus before the police could arrive there.

The police is looking for the bus driver, who is absconding.

Police said 24 persons were in the ‘gharooka’ when the mishap occurred.
