Kolkata/IBNS: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday arrested a suspected Al-Qaeda operative from West Bengal's Murshidabad district in connection with the Al-Qaeda case of West Bengal and Kerala, officials said on Monday.

According to reports, 32-year-old Abdul Momin Mondal, who is a resident of Nazrana village under Raninagar Police Station limits in Murshidabad district, was picked up from his residence and few digital devices were also seized from his premise.

"Abdul Momin Mondal was working as a teacher in Raipur Darur Huda Islamia Madrassa in Murshidabad district of West Bengal and was found to be involved in a series of conspiratorial meetings convened by the members of the Al-Qaeda module," an NIA official said.

"He was also trying to recruit new members for the group and was raising funds for furthering its terrorist activities," the officer added.

With this development, NIA has made its 11th arrest in the case as earlier in September, 10 more suspected Al-Qaeda operatives were nabbed by the agency from West Bengal (seven) and Kerala (three).

Officials of the national counter-terrorist task force said that Abdul Momin Mondal was produced in a local court in Murshidabad on Monday and a transit remand for transporting him to New Delhi for further interrogation had been granted.
