National Conference leader shot dead in J&K

Srinagar, Dec 21 (IBNS) A Village Defence Committee (VDC) member allegedly shot dead a National Conference (NC) leader in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Monday.

A senior police official told IBNS: "Ishtyaq Ahmed Choudhary (26), S/O Fakir Mohammad, youth leader of NC of Kesar Gala was injured seriously after shot at by Kewal Kumar Sharma, VDC member, by his rifle in Potha village of Kalakote Tehsil of Rajouri district last night.The incident occurred when the duo had an altercation over the distribution of ration in the area”.

The injured Ishtyaq Ahmad was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A case has been registered in connection with the matter. The accused has been arrested.

Irked over the killing of Ishtyaq,  locals of the area immediately caught hold of the accused Kewal Kumar and handed him over to the police.

He is also a ration dealer in the area.
