Narada sting: CBI summons TMC MP Sultan Ahmed

Kolkata, Jun 27 (IBNS): In a major development in its ongoing probe into Narada sting, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday summoned Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha MP Sultan Ahmed, sources confirmed.

According to officials, TMC MP from Uluberia Lok Sabha constituency, Sultan Ahmed, has been asked to visit CBI's office at Nizam Palace in south Kolkata at 11 am on Wednesday for interrogation.

"As MP Sultan Ahmed was seen taking money from Mathew Samuel in the sting footage, we want to quiz him to know more about the matter," a CBI official told IBNS.

However, Sultan Ahmed has not confirmed whether he will visit the Central probe agency's office or not.

Meanwhile, deputy mayor of Kolkata and TMC MLA Iqbal Ahmed, who was grilled by the CBI weeks ago in connection with the same case, has lodged a petition at Calcutta High Court, challenging CBI's FIR against him.

According to sources, the CBI called him twice to interrogate again and Iqbal Ahmed avoided the summons, citing his health issues.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Police again interrogated Narada News's CEO Mathew Samuel in connection with an extortion case at Muchipara Police Station on Tuesday.

Samuel has been asked to appear at the police station again on Wednesday around 1 pm, while the CBI will quiz him in Narada sting case on the same day from 11 am, reports said.

Since Mar 14 last year, news portal- Narada News- released several sting operation footage, where TMC's leaders, ministers, MPs and MLAs were exposed while allegedly taking bribes.

From the beginning, TMC leaderships had claimed that the sting footage was doctored and conspiracy of oppositions.

After getting direction from the Calcutta High Court and Supreme Court, the CBI has started probe into the case.

Earlier on April 17, the investigation agency registered an FIR in connection with the case under several non-bailable sections against 12 influential leaders, cabinet ministers, MLAs and MPs of TMC and one senior IPS officer, who were seen taking bribes in the sting footage, reports said.

Besides CBI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has registered a money laundering case in Narada sting and the Central economic intelligence agency is currently investigating the case.
