Mumbai/IBNS: A case has been filed against Mumbai's civic body (BMC) after a woman lost her life after falling into a drain amid downpour in the city on Wednesday, media reports said.

Vimal Anil Gaikwad, 45, fell into an overflowing manhole near Gate number 8 of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation building in Andheri East, Mumbai, NDTV reports.

The victim was rushed to a hospital where she was declared brought-dead.

Vimal's husband, who filed a complaint with the police, said the victim was the sole breadwinner of his family.

"I am a sick man, my wife used to take care of my house. We have lost everything, I want that whoever is at fault should be punished. We have lodged an FIR," the victim's husband said as quoted by NDTV.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has constituted a three-member panel and sought a report on the incident within three days.
