Manipur case: Supreme Court directs CBI not to record victims' statements until hearing completes

New Delhi/UNI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday orders CBI to wait and not interact with or record the statements of two rape survivors until hearing is completed.

The Chief Justice-led bench said this as the lawyer for two Manipuri women victims, Nizammudin Pasha, said that since the SC is hearing the case at 2 p.m. today, it would be better that the CBI does not record their statement prior to the hearing.

The Solicitor General (SG), Tushar Mehta, said if the CBI does not record a statement promptly in this case, then Kapil Sibal will blame us and will say that we are not doing our duty.

The CJI passed the order stopping the CBI from recording the victims statements until today's completion of the hearing in the case, as it was informed that the CBI was going to record their statements at noon on Tuesday.

In a peak of the ethnic clashes that have been occurring in the state for months, a horror video from Manipur showed two women being paraded naked by a mob.

The video from Manipur, which became viral ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, continues to create massive ruckus in both houses with the opposition demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over it.
