Mamata demands Leader of the Nation title for Netaji

Darjeeling, Jan 23 (IBNS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday demanded that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose be accorded the title of "Leader of the Nation", while saying that the country has the right to know the truth about his mysterious disappearance.

"The country has the right to know about the fate of Netaji. 75 years ago, Netaji left the country, but we still don't know the fact about his disappearance. People have the right to know the truth," she said  at a function organised to mark  Netaji's 119th birth anniversary.

Her demand came the day the Centre declassified 100 secret files on Netaji and put them on public domain.

Few months ago, the West Bengal government, at the behest of Mamata, put on public domain several classified files on Netaji.

"We want to see the files which would bring to light the details of Netaji's disappearance. The truth about Netaji's disappearance must come out through documentation and proof. Netaji must be given the title of 'Leader of the Nation'. He deserves this honour," Banerjee  said.
