Mamata Banerjee inaugurates Jangalmahal Utsav in West Midnapore
Kolkata, Jan 5 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday flagged off the second edition of Jangalmahal Utsav in West Bengal's West Midnapore district and distributed prizes for the Jangalmahal Cup.
The Jangalmahal Cup is an annual tournament where people from four districts- West Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia and Birbhum- compete in different kinds of sports including football, kabaddi and archery.
"There were more than 42,000 participants, representing 2300 clubs of 4 districts, this year in the Jangalmahal Cup. I request all the participants to register in the Employment Bank," Banerjee said.
Banerjee on Tuesday inaugurated two super-specialty hospitals at Onda and Chhatna in Bankura district from the event here. Through remote control, she laid the foundation stone of the West Bengal Health University's new building.
The Jangalmahal Utsav, which focuses on West Bengal's tribal music and folk songs, will conclude on Jan 9. Handicrafts from Jangalmahal districts will also be showcased in the five-day-long festival.
