Addressing a rally in Nadia, Banerjee alleged that “200 cars carrying CRPF from Uttar Pradesh via Ayodhya” were on their way to Bengal “to attack you,” but urged people not to be afraid."

“This is a 15-day trick… a 25-day game. Ultimately, the power lies with the voters,” she said.

EC defends deployment

Responding to the concerns, the Election Commission of India said the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) is aimed at ensuring “fear-free, peaceful, and fair elections.”

The poll body said nearly 2.4 lakh CAPF personnel are being deployed in West Bengal in a phased and impartial manner, following established standard operating procedures.

Officials added that the move came after a recent incident in Malda, where seven judicial officers were allegedly held hostage for several hours on April 1, raising concerns over law and order.

CM targets voter roll revision, BJP

Banerjee also strongly criticised the voter list revision process, alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party had removed names of several voters.

“Why did they do it? Doesn’t the Prime Minister feel ashamed?” she said, linking the issue to earlier remarks on “infiltrators” in other states.

She further argued that border security and internal forces—including BSF, CRPF, CISF, and ITBP—fall under the Centre’s control, and questioned its accountability over infiltration claims.

Heavy security deployment in Bengal

West Bengal has consistently seen one of the highest deployments of central forces during elections.

During the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, around 920 CAPF companies (nearly 92,000 personnel) were stationed in the state—significantly higher than many other regions.

For comparison, about 900 CAPF companies were deployed in Jammu and Kashmir during its 2024 Assembly elections, while around 635 companies were stationed there during the Lok Sabha polls.
