Maharashtra: 50-yr-old man washed away in flooded river in Thane

Thane/UNI: A 50-year-old man who went to rescue a youth in a swollen river, was washed away by the flood waters in Bhiwandi town of the district.

A 25-year-old youth went for a swim in the Kammavari river in Bhiwandi on Tuesday and was caught in the floods, at that time, two people standing nearby jumped into the river to rescue him, police said.

While the drowning youth was rescued, one of the rescuers, Siddesh Shaikh, was washed away by the flooded river.

The local Nizampura police and Fire Brigade personnel carried out a frantic search for him but in vain.

The river was flooded throughout the day due to heavy rains, sources added.
