Lockdown can only be last resort: PM Modi addresses nation on Covid19 situation
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi begins addressing the nation on the Covid19 situation amid a massive spike in the cases nationwide. He said the country has to be spared a lockdown and it should be the last resort only. Focus can be on containment zones.
The PM ruled out lockdown at the moment calling it as the last resort. Pointers of what the PM said:
I thank India's Covid warriors and condole the deaths. Let us fight it with patience.
Oxygen demand is high and we are attending it with full priority. We are trying to make it available to all. We are trying to increase production.
Production of medicines is much higher now and it is being expedited. Pharma firms are helping in every way.
We have a strong pharma sector.
We are trying to increase the number of beds in hospitals. Big and special Covid hospitals are being built.
We are conducting the world's biggest vaccination drive in the world and ensuring that it reaches most number of people who need it.
Corona warriors and senior citizens have got it.
Half of the vaccines produced in India would reach the states and hospitals
I urge the states to assure the labourers working there that they would get vaccine where they are.
We now have infrastructure to fight it.
Please make such a conducive situation at home that people do not venture out much.
Modi reiterated "dawai bhi kadai bhi" (Medicines and Strictures both are essential)
