Kolkata, Feb 26 (IBNS): An active member of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) was booked on Thursday midnight for allegedly murdering another TMC activist in Kolkata's Baguiati area, police officials said.

According to reports, Bidhannagar City Police arrested TMC activist Dipankar Sarkar from New Town area in Kolkata.

Earlier on Thursday, TMC activist Sanjoy Roy was shot and stabbed to death by few miscreants in broad daylight in Kolkata's Kestopur area.

However, arrested Dipankar Sarkar was produced in the Barasat Court on Friday and sent to police custody for 13 days.

Local mob on Friday morning ransacked few houses including the residence of arrested TMC activist Dipankar Sarkar. A heavy police force including the Rapid Action Force (RAF) has been posted at the area to avoid any untoward situation.

"We have nabbed one- Dipankar Sarkar- in connection with the murder of Sanjoy Roy. He is in our custody and is being interrogated. We got three more names- Ranju, Tukai and Prabir- from him. We are searching for the trio. Their last mobile tower location has been spotted at Gocharon area in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district," one senior official of Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate told IBNS.
