Kolkata hit-and-run case: Kolkata Police reject IAF's proposal for joint probe

Kolkata, Feb 2 (IBNS): The Kolkata Police have rejected Indian Air Force (IAF)'s proposal for a joint-investigation into the Red Road hit-and-run case, sources said.

Ahead of the Republic Day, a speeding Audi Q-7 car, which was registered in the name of a company- Mussadi Business Pvt Ltd- owned by former RJD MLA and presently TMC leader Md. Sohrab's elder son Ambia Sohrab, allegedly broke police barricades at Red Road and hit Indian Air Force (AIF) corporal Abhimanyu Gaud on Jan 13 early morning. The airman, a 21-year-old Air Force drill instructor was killed in the incident.

On Jan 27, the IAF sent a letter to the Commissioner of Kolkata Police, seeking permission to commence a parallel probe into the incident with the Kolkata Police. The IAF also requested the Kolkata Police to provide witness list and other evidences.

According to IAF sources, the Kolkata Police on Saturday sent a reply letter to them, where it was written that joint-investigation into the case was impossible due to legal problems.

However, the Kolkata Police have stated that they are ready to share probe-updates with the IAF. Besides this, if Air Force want to add its official with Kolkata Police's special investigation team (SIT), KP does not have any problem- Kolkata Police wrote to IAF.

The Kolkata Police have already arrested former RJD lawmaker Md. Sohrab's younger son Sambia Sohrab, who was reportedly driving the car that day, and his two friends- Sanu and Johny- in connection with this case and they are in judicial custody, while Md. Sohrab and his elder son Ambia Sohrab are still absconding.

Meanwhile, the Test Identification (TI) Parade of the trio- Sambia, Sanu and Johny- will be conducted in Kolkata's Presidency Jail on Thursday, in presence of Magistrate.
