New Delhi, Apr 7 (IBNS) A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and five other Aam Aadmi Party leaders in the defamation case filed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jatiley.

Ahead of the arrival of the rival A-lister politicians, supporters of both camps clashed outside the court-house.

After granting the Chief Minister and his colleagues bail against sureties of Rs. 20,000 each, the court fixed the next date of hearing for May 19.

Before the hearing, BJP supporters chanted "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" outside court.

The court hearing was meant to be begin at 3 pm, but was advanced by an hour upon Mr Kejriwal's request; he said he needs to get to a cabinet meeting after court.

Jaitley filed the defamation suit over Kejriwal's remarks related to alleged corruption in the city’s cricket body. He demanded Rs.10 crore damages.

Besides Kejriwal, the five other AAP leaders are Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha and Deepak Bajpai before Chief metropolitan magistrate Sumit Dass.

The court had summoned them for the alleged offences under Sections 500 (criminal defamation) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The Union minister had said that Kejriwal’s statement that he received money when the Ferozshah Kotla Stadium was constructed during his tenure as the in the Delhi and District Cricket Association DDCA chief was false.
