Karnataka state to have its own flag?

Banagalore, July 18 (IBNS): In a major development, the government in Karnataka has set up a panel which will explore whether it was legally possible for a state to have its own flag.

The move has been made ahead of the state Assembly polls next year.

Speaking to media, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said: "It has nothing to do with elections."

"If the BJP is opposed to it then can they say openly that they are against a state flag," the CM was quoted as saying by the media.

According to reports, the panel will also suggest the design of the flag for the southern state.

Reacting to the matter, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted: "The "one nation one flag" hashtag is factually incorrect unless of course one chooses not to count J&K as part of the nation. Our flag ."

Under the  Article 370 of the Constitution, having the special status, Jammu and Kashmir is the only state to have the permit to have its own flag.
