JNU row: Congress demonstrates in Kolkata ahead of Modi's visit

Kolkata, Feb 21 (IBNS): Protesting against the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) issue and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kolkata, the youth and student units of the Congress on Sunday evening held a demonstration near Netaji Indoor Stadium in the city, where Modi will be joining an event shortly.

Few protesters reportedly showed black flag and shouted 'go back Modi' slogan.

However, police have held all protesters and an untoward situation was avoided.

PM Narendra Modi has arrived in Kolkata few minutes earlier to inaugurate the three-year long centenary celebration of the Gaudiya Math and Mission at Netaji Indoor Stadium. Modi will also visit the Gaudiya Math in north Kolkata's Baghbazar area thereafter to perform aarti and will leave the city at around 8 pm.

The nation is currently witnessing protests and counter protests over the situation arising out of anti-India slogans in the JNU campus recently, and the police cracking down on students who marked the death anniversary of Parliament Attack convict Afzal Guru on its campus in the national capital.
