JNU panel recommends rustication of Kanhaiya Kumar, 4 others

New Delhi, Mar 14 (IBNS): An inquiry panel, which was set up by the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), on Monday recommended rustication of student leader Kanhaiya Kumar and four others for the Feb 9 incident in the university campus where anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.

Names of Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya have also been mentioned by the panel for rustication, reports said.

Kanhaiya Kumar, a supporter of Left ideologies, was released recently from Tihar Jail after 23 days of imprisonment. After his release he delivered a fiery speech in the JNU campus targetting PM Modi and comparing him with Hitler.

He was booked on sedition charges, moments after anti-national slogans were reportedly heard inside the JNU campus.

Claiming to teach a lesson to Kanhaiya Kumar, a man last week tried to assault the student leader at the JNU in New Delhi.

The man wanted to punish Kanhaiya for "abusing the country, raising anti-India slogans."

According to reports, the man, who is not from the university, was escorted off campus by security.
