Hyderabad, Feb 28 (IBNS): An FIR has been lodged against senior political leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, in connection with the recent JNU row.

According to reports, FIR has been registered Gadhi , Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal,  CPI-M- general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Congress leaders Anand Sharma and Ajay Maken, CPI leader D Raja, JD(U) spokesperson KC Tyagi, JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and JNU research scholar Umar Khalid where they have been booked under sedition charges.

The FIR has been filed in Saroornagar police station in Telangana on Saturday, reports said.

LB Nagar deputy commissioner of police Tafseer Iqubal told The Economic Times:  "Since the court has given a directive, we were bound to register the case. The question of jurisdiction is always there as the incidents the complaint speaks of took place in New Delhi. We will take a legal opinion on this and act accordingly. If it is not covered by us, we will transfer this FIR to the concerned police station in New Delhi."

Complainant Sunkari Janardhan Goud told the newspaper: "I was watching TV and reading newspaper reports. As a patriotic citizen of India, I am hurt by what these people have done. The slogans they raised on February 9 are against the nation. As a taxpayer, I have every right to question them."

Based on Goud's complaint, the FIR was reportedly registered on the order of a Hyderabad court.

Several JNU students have been arrested for glorifying Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru and being part of an event where anti-India slogans were raised, triggering a nationwide debate that sharply divided the people.

JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested first on sedition charges after anti-India slogans were raised inside the JNU campus at an event to observe the death anniversary of Guru.

Later other students, including Umar Khalid, surrendered to police.
