Jaya Bachchan to campaign for TMC in Kolkata today

| @indiablooms | Apr 05, 2021, at 05:05 pm

Kolkata/IBNS: In an apparent counter to Mithun Chakraborty's campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), actor-politician Jaya Bachchan will be seen holding a roadshow for the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in poll-bound West Bengal on Monday.

Bachchan, who is an MP of the BJP's rival Samajwadi Party (SP), will hold a roadshow at Tollygunge in south Kolkata in the evening.

The SP, led by former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, has announced its full support to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party in the ongoing polls.

The veteran actor, who landed in Kolkata late last night, was welcomed by TMC MP Derek O'Brien and sitting MLA Chandrima Bhattacharya.

The electoral battle in Tollygunge has turned out to be fascinating after the BJP pitted Union Minister Babul Supriyo against TMC strongman Aroop Biswas from the south Kolkata seat.

Weeks before commencement of the polls, the BJP had inducted Mithun Chakraborty into the party during a rally in Kolkata.

Chakraborty, a former TMC MP, is campaigning for various saffron party candidates in across the state.
