Jammu and Kashmir: LeT militant associate arrested in Baramulla

Srinagar: A suspected militant associate of Laskhar-e-Taiba was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.

The militant associate identified by police as Mohammad Ashraf Mir of Laridoora Chandoosa was arrested by a joint team of police and Army at Shranz crossing in Nagbal area.

" On a specific information regarding movement of terrorists in Village Nagbal Chandoosa joint forces of Baramulla Police & 52 RR placed a MVCP (Mobile Vehicle Check Post) at Shranz Crossing. One suspect person who was coming from Shrunz towards Nagbal Chandoosa tried to flee while noticing joint naka party but was apprehended tactfully," a police spokesman said.

"During his personal search one grenade was recovered from him and was taken into custody immediately," he added.

Police said the suspect was later identified as Ashraf Mir, who was working as militant associate of LeT.

Police said said Mir is a surrendered militant.

A case under Indian Arms Act & UA (P) Act was registered in Police Station Chandoosa and investigations was taken up, the spokesperson said.
