Jammu and Kashmir adopts GST, Opposition boycotts

| | Jul 07, 2017, at 10:20 pm
Srinagar, Jul 7 (IBNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine-die on Friday after it passed the state Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill by voice vote, according to media reports

The Opposition, boycotted the proceedings and staged a walk out.

Finance minister Haseeb Drabu, who moved the Bill, said the GST regime will roll out from Friday midnight.

Jammu and Kashmir is the last state to join the new tax regime.

The Opposition has claimed that the ruling government has undermined the state's special status by seeking a presidential order for the GST roll out in Jammu and Kashmir.
