Kolkata, Dec 3 (IBNS) Indian Navy will be conducting an international fleet review from Feb 4 to 8 in Visakhapatnam, officials said on Thursday.

The FIR-2016 is proposed to be done at a much larger scale than ever done before, said, Naval Officer-in-Charge of Kolkata, Commodore Ravi Ahluwalia.

He was briefing the media on the occasion of Navy Day celebrations here .

Cdr. Ahluwalia said, many leading nations of the world use this opportunity to enhance mutual trust and confidence with their maritime neighbours and partners by inviting their fleets to participate in this event. It also allows the host nation an opportunity to display its maritime capabilities and utilise the bridges of friendship and trust built with other maritime nations.

Every year these celebrations focus around a particular theme.

This year’s theme for Navy Day is “Indian Navy-Empowering India through Maritime Security and Indigenisation”.

Navy Day celebrations are held on Dec 4.

The celebrations include various events held as an endeavour to bring the Navy close to citizens of the country.
