Girl molested in Kolkata supermarket, 1 booked

Kolkata, Mar 7 (IBNS): A north-eastern girl, staying in Kolkata, was allegedly molested and faced racial insults inside a Reliance supermarket on Saturday evening, reports said.

According to reports, the victim went to a Reliance Fresh Store at Netaji Nagar area near Tollygunge in south Kolkata and an employee of the store allegedly tried to molest her. Racial comments were also made against her.

The girl immediately informed the store manager about the incident. The store manager advised her not to inform the police.

The girl, however, lodged a complaint at Netaji Nagar Police Station on Sunday.

Police arrested the accused employee, who was identified as Sumit Rajbhar (19), and slapped molestation charges on him.

Meanwhile, the Reliance Fresh authority has sacked two employees- the accused and the store-manager on duty- immediately.

Seeking apology from the girl and assuring a strict action against the accused, Reliance Fresh CEO Damodar Mall wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter, "Sorry and deep apologies, we assure you and all here a strict action. Please come back and shop with us again."

"Offending staffer has been dismissed on gross indiscipline and breach of code of conduct. The services of the store manager on duty have been terminated due to dereliction of duty," he further said.

The store has also appointed a high level probe committee, comprising of EX-DCP Parbati Paul and legal counsel Sarita Joglekar, to investigate the incident.

Police have started investigation into the matter.
