Srinagar, Aug 21 (IBNS): Jammu and Kashmir police recovered the body of a former Panchayat member from an orchard in Anantnag district of South Kashmir, an official said on Monday.

Shabir Ahmad Wani’s body was found at a distance from his home in the Shangus area. He was affiliated to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to a police officer, they rushed to the spot after receiving information about a body lying in the orchard. There was a visible head injury, the police said.

"We are investigating the case and the culprits will be arrested soon,” he said.

In a separate incident, on Sunday evening, suspected militants shot dead a cable operator and a young boy in Shopian district of south Kashmir.

On Saturday, a PDP worker was also shot dead by suspected militants in the same district.
