Farmers playing key role in building Aatmanirbhar Bharat: PM Modi on Mann Ki Baat

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the nation through his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat where spoke about how the new farm bills would benefit the farmers and help create a self-reliant India.

"Farmers are playing a major role in the efforts to build an Aatmanirbhar Bharat," he said amidst nationwide protests by several farmers' groups and opposition parties over the passage of the three controversial farm bills by the Parliament.

"During the pandemic, farmers have suffered a lot but they have not given up. Farmers earn 10-12 lakh per acre every year by growing vegetables. They must have the power to sell it to whoever they want," the PM said.

He informed that farmers in Pune and Mumbai run weekly markets themselves.

"In these markets, the products of about four and a half thousand farmers, of about 70 villages, are sold directly without any middleman," said Modi.

"Rural youths are directly involved in the market, in the process of farming and selling - it directly benefits the farmers, employs the youth of the village," said he.
