Ex- Delhi University lecturer arrested on sedition charges

New Delhi, Feb 16 (IBNS): The Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested ex-Delhi University lecturer SAR Geelani over sedition and other charges.

He was arrested for allegedly organizing an event to mark the death anniversary of Parliament Attack convict Afzal Guru, reports said.

Last night, he was called to the Parliament Street police station and detained.

He was question for several hours before being arrested, reports said.

The arrest has been made when the country is witnessing a political storm over the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) incident.

The JNU is currently facing protests and counter protests with the police cracking down on students over the anti-India slogans raised earlier to mark the death anniversary of Parliament Attack convict Afzal Guru on its campus in the national capital.

JNU teachers, students and media persons were allegedly attacked by lawyers in New Delhi's Patiala Court on Monday.

The incident occurred before arrested JNU students union president Kanhaiya Kumar's was to be presented in the court.

Kanhaiya Kumar was earlier arrested on sedition charges.
