Eleven coaches of Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express derail in Odisha, 1 dies

At least one person died, and seven others were injured after 11 coaches of the Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express derailed near Nergundi station in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Sunday.

Railway authorities and police officials rushed to the spot after the derailment.

“We have received one body apart from some injured passengers. Three teams of doctors have been engaged in treating the injured passengers,” administrative officer of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Subash Chandra Ray, told Hindustan Times,

The identity of the deceased person is not known.

East Coast Railway said a detailed inquiry will be held to determine the cause of the derailment.

"CRS will hold a detailed inquiry into the incident of derailment of coaches of 12551 Bangalore-Kamakhya AC SF Express. Efforts are underway to restore normalcy to the affected routes asap. Safety protocols have been strictly followed during the rescue operations,"

East Coast Railway posted on X.

Some passengers alleged that no drinking water was arranged for them.

“We do not know why train mishaps are frequently occurring in Odisha. We are hearing that some work was going on and it was not done properly because of which the mishap occurred,” a passenger told Hindustan Times.
