Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee to seek ban on Sikh jokes

New Delhi, Jan 4 (IBNS): Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee President Manjit Singh G.K on Monday said Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee will fight case on 'Sikh Jokes' in Supreme Court and will hire battery of top lawyers of the country to seek complete ban on such jokes in the country.
He told that the apex court  bench, headed  by Chief Justice of India Justice T.S.Thakur, has decided that petition of the Supreme Court advocate Harvinder Chaudhry on this topic  will be heard with the petition filed by  Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee during next date of hearing.
 
The Committee President said that Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee has sought services of  legal luminaries like Ram Jethmalani, R.S.Sodhi and R.S.Suri for fighting the case in the apex court for effective presentation.
 
He demanded the enactment of the law on the pattern of the Anti Bullying Law  being practiced in various European countries to stop jokes on racial and religious lines . 
 
He told that the committee will fight for complete ban on jokes being practiced on all religions and regions like Gujarati jokes, Bihari jokes and jokes on north eastern regional   communities and told that  committee has already approached various communities who are facing racial slurs due to such jokes in India .
 
He  said that the committee will soon meet union minister of state for home affairs to seek his  support  for complete ban on such jokes in the country and said that  committee will request the union government  for enactment of  law on the pattern of central  SC/ST act to make such jokes as offence under the law . 
 
Singh said that certain  commercial organizations are making  huge profit in crores by running  websites on Sikh jokes.
 
He said that campaign on ban Sikh jokes has received massive support from all section of society cutting across party, religious and regional lines and so far 60,000 persons has signed the petition to support the movement in the country and abroad.
