Covid-19: Health Ministry warns against use of N-95 masks with respirator valves

New Delhi/IBNS: The Director General of Health Services (DGHS) of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has warned all states and union territories against the 'inappropriate use' of N-95 protective masks with valved respirators, saying these do not prevent the Novel Coronavirus from spreading out.

In a letter to the Principal Health Secretaries of all states and UTs, DGHS Rajiv Garg wrote, "The use of valved respirator N-95 masks is detrimental to the measures adopted for preventing the spread of Coronavirus as it does not prevent the virus from escaping out of the mask."

"In view of this, I request you to instruct all concerned to follow the guidelines on the use of face mouth cover and prevent inappropriate use of N-95 masks," the letter dated Jul 20 read.

The central Health Ministry also asked people to follow its advisory on the use of homemade protective cover for face and mouth available on the official website of the MoHFW.
