Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi mourns Lt. Gen JFR Jacob death

New Delhi, Jan 13 (IBNS) Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday mourned the death of Lieutenant General JFR Jacob (retired).

Jacob had played a prominent hero of the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

He died following a prolonged illness at the age of 92.

Congress tweeted quoting Gandhi: "A brave son of India,his role in the Bangladesh liberation war as Chief of Eastern command has a special place in the war history of world. The country stands proud of his life, work and service to the nation as a soldier and patriot."

Born in 1923 in Kolkata,  Lt Gen Jacob joined the army at the age of 19 and also fought in World War II and the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965 before he retired in 1978.

Post retirement, he also served as the Governor of Goa and Punjab.
