Congress decides not to give multiple state charges to a leader

New Delhi, July 13 (IBNS): Changing the age-old practice, the Congress party decided not to give multiple state charges to a single leader, media reports said on Thursday.

Reports suggest that it was decided after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi learned from several leaders how the job is overburdening for the general secretaries. They informed Rahul that as a result of multiple charges, leaders are not able to concentrate on each state properly, leading to successive defeats in assembly elections.

According to the new directive, each state will have its own general secretaries. In bigger states, there would several secretaries while two in small states to assist the general secretary.

Congress in 2014 Lok Sabha election were reduced to only 44 seats, the worst performance by the party since Independence. However, the performance did not improve since then, as the age-old party lost in states like Kerala, Assam and few more.

The newly appointed general secretaries would work towards strengthening the party unit in their respective states.
