Congress books 75 seats in first list for Bengal polls
Kolkata, Mar 8 (IBNS): Triggering the possibility of an 'understanding' between the Congress and the Left, West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Tuesday declared the first list containing 75 seats.
From this 75 seats, Congress leaders will contest in the upcoming assembly election. The party has sent the name of candidates to the high command in Delhi for final approval.
Adhir Chowdhury said, "Discussion for seat-adjustment with Lefts are currently underway. We will demand for 100 seats. In few seats, where both the parties will give contestants, a friendly-battle will be observed in the assembly election."
WBPCC president, however, confirmed that senior party leader Om Prakash Mishra will contest from Bhawanipore constituency in Kolkata, against TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee.
The Left Front on Monday declared the first list of candidates, containing 116 seats.
The assembly polls in the state will be commencing from April 4.
