Colonel Ponung Doming; first Indian woman officer to command world's highest border roads outpost

Itanagar/IBNS: Colonel Ponung Doming, a native of Arunachal Pradesh, has become the first Indian woman officer to command a border roads outpost situated above 15,000 feet in Ladakh.

This historic milestone not only marks her as the first woman officer from Arunachal Pradesh in the Indian Army but also the first Colonel ranked woman officer from the North East, reporetd Arunachal24.

Tasked with overseeing several strategically significant projects along the Northern Borders, Colonel Doming will be leading the Border Roads Task Force, with a special focus on BRO's Project Himank, including the management of the world's highest motorable road at Umling La, which connects Chishumle village to Demchok in Ladakh, spanning an impressive 52 kilometers at an elevation of 19,024 feet.

Hailing from Pasighat in the East Siang District, Colonel Doming completed her civil engineering studies at the Walchand College of Engineering in Maharashtra and joined the Indian Army as a lieutenant in 2008.

With a remarkable career that includes serving in the United Nations Peace Keeping Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and holding various instructional appointments in Army Training Institutes, she has demonstrated her capabilities in both operational areas such as J & K and Manipur.
