Chinese Dragon, Indian Elephant must dance together, says China's Foreign Minister

To bolster the partnership, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called out to its neighbour, stating "If China and India are united, one plus one will become eleven instead of two."

Asked how he views the present Indo-China relationship, Wang said, "Despite some tests and difficulties, the China-India relationship continues to grow."

Last year, the bilateral ties between India and China took a hit after Beijing blocked New Delhi's attempt at the United Nations to list terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist as well as India's entry into the Nuclear Suppliers Group or NSG.

Indian and Chinese troops at Dokalam, a three-way strategic point, also engaged at a standoff after the former accused the latter of breaking protocols and building a road, which was rubbished by the latter.

India and China's relationship also soured owing to Beijing ambitious China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

However, those may well be a thing of the past, according to Wang.

"Chinese and Indian leaders have developed a strategic vision for the future of our relations. The Chinese dragon and Indian elephant must not fight each other but dance with each other," he said.

"With political trust, not even the Himalayas can stop us from friendly exchanges," he said.

While answering a question on whether the India, Japan, US and Australia nexus will affect China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), he said that it's like the foam on the sea that gets attention but will soon dissipate. 

"Let us not forget that the Belt and Road Initiative has received the support of over 100 countries. Nowadays stroking a new Cold War is out of sync with the times and inciting confrontation will find no market," he said.
