New Delhi/IBNS: The government has extended the tenure of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director Sanjay Kumar Mishra by one year after modifying his 2018 appointment order.

The Director of ED holds office for a fixed period of two years. But after the extension he will have another year in office which was to end next week.

An order issued by the Department of Revenue under the Union finance ministry on Friday said the 2018 appointment of Mr Mishra stands modified.

"The President of India is pleased to approve the modification in the earlier order dated November 19, 2018, appointing Shri Sanjay Kumar Mishra as director of enforcement in the Enforcement Directorate," the order read.

According to the modified appointment order, Mishra will be in charge of ED for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders.

The ED is responsible for enforcing two lawas--the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA)--enacted to curb terror financing, black money, money laundering, hawal and illegal cross border transactions.
