The Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in the Bhalara forest area of Doda district in the Union Territory on Sunday.

Official sources told Daily Excelsior that a joint team of security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the forest area of Bhallara, which falls under the jurisdiction of Police Post Karrara and Police Station Thathri.

During the operation, security personnel recovered one Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), two magazines, and 20 rounds of ammunition. No arrests have been made so far.

Confirming the recovery, Doda Police said in a post on X: "Special Operation Group (SOG) of @JmuKmrPolice busted a hideout in the Thathri area of District Doda. Arms and ammunition recovered."

Police added that a case has been registered under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation in November, Shopian Police conducted extensive searches at multiple locations across the district targeting individuals and premises linked to the banned organisation Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), which is proscribed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

"The large-scale operation was part of continuing preventive measures aimed at identifying and neutralising networks attempting to covertly revive the activities of proscribed organisations. All individuals with any past or present affiliation with the banned group were brought under the ambit of the searches," Shopian Police said in a Facebook post.
