Bharat Mata chant row: Anupam Kher, Taslima Nasreen slams Asaduddin Owaisi

New Delhi, Mar 16 (IBNS): Actor Anupam Kher and Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen came out in attacking Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi for his remarks on 'Bharat mata ki jai' chant.

Owaisi recently triggered a controversy by refusing to chant 'Bharat mata ki jai'.

"Javed Akhtar@Javedakhtarjadu 's farewell speech at Rajya Sabha was very moving. People like Owaisi should be exposed. Bharat Mata Ki Jai," Nasreen tweeted.

Actor Anupam Kher attacked the political leader and tweeted: "The only definition of NATIONALISM for Bharatwasis should be "Bharat Mata Ki Jai". Rest all are escape routes.:)"

Rajya Sabha MP Javed Akhtar on Tuesday attacked Owaisi on the floor of the Parliament and said chanting Bharat mata ki jai' is 'my duty or not but it is my right'.

Slamming the leader, he said: "The Constitution even does not ask him to wear sherwani  and a topi (cap). I don't care to know whether saying 'Bharat mata ki jai' is my duty or not but it is my own right."

Triggering a controversy, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi had said he will never chant 'BharatMata Ki Jai'.

Challenging RSS head Mohan Bhagwat over his suggestion to teach new generation  to chant slogans hailing 'Mother India', Owaisi said: "I don't chant that slogan."

"What are you going to do, Bhagwat sahab," he said.

He said he will not chant the slogan if a knife is put on his throat.

"Nowhere in the Constitution it has been mentioned  that one should say: Bharat Mata ki Jai," Owaisi said.
