Bengal CID quizzes Roopa Ganguly in child trafficking case

Kolkata, Jul 29 (IBNS): West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday interrogated actress-turned-BJP Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly in connection with a child trafficking racket, busted a few months ago, reports said.

According to reports, a four-member CID, including two women officers, went to Roopa Ganguly's residence in Tollygunge in south Kolkata and the BJP leader was questioned for nearly two hours.

Sources said that Roopa Ganguly was quizzed from 11:20 am. to nearly 1:20 pm. and her statement recorded.

CID officials claimed that few documents, including bank transaction reports, have been collected from her house and taken to Bhabani Bhaban, headquarter of the state probe agency, for examination.

In February, CID busted a Jalpaiguri-based international child trafficking racket and arrested several persons, including BJP women's wing leader Juhi Chaudhury, in connection with it.

CID sources claimed that during interrogation, Juhi Chaudhury revealed her good relation with Roopa Ganguly and few other leaders of the BJP.

Earlier on Jul 20, the probe agency had summoned four BJP leaders, including Roopa Ganguly, Kailash Vijayvargiya,Vinayak Mishra and Prashant Sareen, in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, granting the plea of Kailash Vijayvargiya, the Bhopal High Court has already put a stay on his CID interrogation.

Following the interrogation, Roopa Ganguly told the media: I'll say Juhi Chowdhury is innocent until she is found guilty. I was quizzed by CID for two hours today. I'll cooperate with them in the investigation. I want CID to complete the probe quickly. I don't have any connection with any child trafficking or any other racket.
