Mumbai, Dec 18 (IBNS) Screenings of Bajirao Mastani were cancelled at a film theatre in Pune on the day of its nationwide release on Friday morning following protests by the BJP's youth wing, reports said.

A group of people also allegedly ransacked the auditorium..

The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film based on the story of Maratha warrior Bajirao Peshwa and his second wife Mastani, has faced protests over alleged distortion of history.

Starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, it was released today across India.

Descendants of the Peshwa and Chhatrasal dynasty have protested against promotional videos and songs of the movie, alleging that the characters have been portrayed in a manner that is not accurate and goes against sentiment.
