'Bahut kuch hai': CBI on evidences in corruption case against ex-RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh

Kolkata/IBNS: Amid people's cry for justice in the RG Kar incident, the Central Bureau of Investigation has claimed a lot of evidences are available against the medical college's former principal, Dr. Sandip Ghosh whose role came under the scanner following the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor.

The CBI on Sunday raided the residences and offices of Dr. Ghosh, ex-MSVP Sanjay Vashisth and 13 others in Kolkata.

When reporters asked whether evidences are found, a CBI official said, "Bahut kuch hai (a lot is there)."

The CBI's Anti-Corruption Branch is probing into the alleged financial irregularities by Dr. Ghosh, who was controversially posted to the Calcutta National Medical College by the government after he quit from RG Kar following the students' protests over the rape-murder.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ghosh appeared before the CBI on Monday again in connection with the rape-murder case that has triggered massive public outrage across the country and brought the Mamata Banerjee government under scanner over its alleged cover-up.

The trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered at the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, which is located in North Kolkata's Belgachia area on the intervening night of August 8 and 9.

One person, a civic volunteer, has been arrested in connection with the case but protesting students as well as the victim's parents suspect more people are involved in the case.

In a tough question for the Bengal government, which is represented by advocate Kapil Sibal, the Supreme Court asked why a post-mortem was conducted before a First Information Report.

The state administration has been asked why a FIR was filed on "Unnatural Death" even when the autopsy report claims rape and murder.

In its observation, the top court said, "I have not come across a case like this in my last 30 years, Bengal not following criminal procedure code."
