Assembly polls: WB records 79 pct voters turnout, no untoward incident reported
Kolkata, Apr 4 (IBNS): The first phase of the West Bengal Assembly polls concluded peacefully on Monday with heavy voters turnout, media reports said.
Polling was held in 18 of the state's 294 constituencies where a total of 40,09,171 electors were expected to exercise franchise to decide the fates of 133 candidates.
According to the Election Commission, the voting was held in a peaceful manner without any incident of violence.
Voters have cast their ballots without any fear, the commission added.
The first phase of polling took place in state's Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-hit areas which include West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia.
About 79 percent voters turnout was recorded in Bengal's first phase of polling till 5 PM.
In West Midnapore, the voters turnout was 80.44 percent while Purulia witnessed 79.58 percent. Meanwhile, Bankura recorded 78.13 percent turnout.
