Assam multi-crore rupees scam : CID arrested another excise official

Guwahati, July 5 (IBNS): The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Assam police on Wednesday arrested a top official of state excise department in connection with the tax evasion scam in excise department.

According to the reports, the sleuths of the CID had arrested excise deputy commissioner Pranjal Bora.

Apart from Pranjal Bora, the CID had earlier arrested excise superintendent Amarendra Nath, liquor mafia Rajesh Jalan and proprietor of BG bonded warehouse Bonti Gogoi Pegu in connection with the Rs 40 crore scam.

A top CID official said that, the excise deputy commissioner was arrested for his involvement into the scam.

Police had also interrogated several officials of the department in connection with the multi-crore rupees scam.

On the other hand, CID on Wednesday had grilled two former officials of Assam agriculture department in connection with the Rs 700 crore scam.

The sleuths of CID had grilled former state agriculture director Kabindra Borkakty and Chief Engineer Tibra Baruah for their alleged involvement into the scam.

CID had already arrested five officials and interrogated few officials and contractors of the department.
